How many students a year?

Last year 115 students attended the ASK Center. This will increase by approximately 60 intakes with the addition of our third home.

How many Graduate?

60% Received a certificate for course completion. Three graduated with a full Dogwood diploma.

You are Christian? What does that mean?

Just like a Salvation Army, Union Gospel Mission, St. Leonard’s society, Elizabeth house, Sancta Maria Society, etc.

What is the daily schedule?

The young women come to class Monday through Friday 9:00 to 4:00; just an employment schedule.

How much does it cost to educate a women here?

$28,608 per year per student. This includes all of her residential care as well. The cost for her to remain homeless is $40,000 per year. This is based 24 residents a year, staying an average of 12 months; And service to 204 young women a year. Therefore, SAS is reducing social costs to our communities by $11,392.00 per resident multiplied by the 24 women who would on an average stay one year at SAS. This saves our communities a minimum of $273,408.00 annually.

Do you get government funding? Why or why not?

13.5% of our funding is from government sources. All of this funding is for our safe homes. The ASK Center does not receive any government support. Because government funding is typically tied to quota’s and very short term intervention/projects. SAS invests in a young woman for up to seven years, thus ensuring she has internalized and is living a full and independent life, having broken the cycle of poverty. The ASK Center is also committed to providing poems ended, unfettered access to education, thereby facilitating a woman’s ability to continue with her education, even when she leaves for a while.

25% Fund Raisers ( Bowl-A-Thon, Golf and Bus Pass fundraiser )

How much is a bus pass?

$73.00 for one-month pass. Total cost for one SAS participant bus pass for one year is $876.00.

How much does it cost to provide transportation & advocacy for medical care?

$4,380.00 per year donation provides these services to an SAS participant. Monthly donation only $365.00.
